HEB has completed the final design phase for the
historic Stark Covered Bridge rehabilitation project. Upon approval by NHDOT, the project will move
into the bidding phase, with construction anticipated to begin in early
2014. The rehabilitation work is
expected to last nearly a year. During
construction, the bridge will be closed to the public and traffic will be
detoured around the site. The
rehabilitation will stabilize the bridge structure to make it safe for
vehicular traffic while maintaining its historic appearance.
The rehabilitation is primarily funded
through a National Historic Covered Bridge Preservation Program grant,
administered through NHDOT’s State-Aid Bridge Program. The Paddleford-style truss bridge is listed
on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the few remaining
covered bridges of this style still in use in New Hampshire today.
